The European Master Schools of floristry have long held a fascination not only for those from other countries who do not have this option in their own educational establishments but for overseas teachers too.  In an interesting experiment, Kempele Master School in Finland decided that they would document the process of the two years of training involved prior to the students sitting their final examinations.  The result is a limited edition, one-off book entitled – Flower Explosion.

Kempele is a highly respected college of excellence and graduates tend to be of the highest calibre.  They are encouraged to ‘work from nature’ and to assist them in this; much of what they use is grown on-site.  In effect this means that students are encouraged to seek out personal directions in the use of local plant materials.  This is a highly effective approach to education.

This book is dedicated not only to the students but the educators at the college.  Students explain their concepts and, in many cases, the constructive process is shown in colour photography.  For those of us who are interested not only in education but also the level of excellence expected of a Finnish Master florist; this book will offer a unique opportunity to see for ourselves what all of this hard work produces.
