Fusion Flowers Magazine

We have been following the exploits of Bill Schaffer AIDF, AAF, PFCI of Schaffer Designs, Philadelphia and his team as they prepared and then completed their design, Polar Fantasy, at the Philadelphia Flower Show 2010. They took the brave and quite remarkable approach of daring to create a white on white concept in what will no doubt otherwise have been a very colourful show.

However, as I was once told by my art school tutor, the mastery of white on white is very difficult to achieve.  Many people simply do not understand the white criteria properly and what emerged as they created their ‘Polar Fantasy’ which won two awards (PHS Award of Distinction - Display Garden – Floral and The Emile H. Gescick Memorial Award - for an outstanding use of orchid display – an award that in 181 years has never been won in the Floral Division) was a complex crowd pleaser which saw one young man drop to his knees in front of his girlfriend to propose – she accepted!  We just had to feature this YouTube video of the exhibit.  This is only the second time that we’ve featured something like this on the website but I can promise you that we will run the full story of this design in a future issue of Fusion Flowers magazine and in the meantime would like to congratulate everyone who was involved.
