Stunning ideas from Marie-Françoise Déprez….
 

The subject of French style floral design has been very popular for a long time now.  Initially, UK practitioners of floral art looked to France when the so-called ‘modern’ flower arrangement style came into fashion decades ago.  There is no doubt that their work is very chic, stylish and often shows clean, architectural lines.  Of course, Italian design also covers this type of work but what is so interesting is that there has been little evidence in design terms of moving forward from either of these countries.

A leading French designer is Marie-Françoise Déprez who is undoubtedly at the forefront of design excellence in French terms and indeed – in international terms too!  The difference is that the work of Marie-Françoise is growing and developing.  It appears that she embraces the world and its techniques which she uses to develop her own style of arrangement.  This ‘openness’ has resulted in arrangements that show designer chic at its best.

There is no doubt that her latest book, Table Design, will once again be a bestseller.  What is unusual about Marie-Françoise is that, at last, she gives indications to the reader as to how some of the actual designs were created.  This is a HUGE breakthrough because in one fell sweep she has broken down the barriers that have existed for years and she has to be admired for this very brave step forward.

Table Design covers arrangements that would be suitable for every conceivable table and occasion.  Interesting too, from a floristry point of view, is the fact that many of these designs would be highly saleable as corporate designs for hotels, businesses or events and, from the flower arranger or floral designer point of view, there’s much that would look superb in any home or even in competitions!
