Sustainability, Horti Fair 2008 - Amsterdam |
Given the current world financial crisis, we wondered if there would be anything exciting to see at this year's Hortif Fair in The Netherlands and - of course - there was plenty to see. This is our first report from the show.
There is always a central message at the Horti Fair trade show in Amsterdam and this year was no exception. Sustainability in reference to flowers, their growth, their transportation, their longevity and their location was the burning issue at this year’s show. However, in her first report from Horti Fair 2008 our editor focused more on potential inspiration. As ever, Alison was searching for ideas to inspire readers and this year she found so many she decided that it was too much for one issue!
In the first report we take a look at design ideas using the new OASIS® Pebbles product where foliage was controlled by use of wax stars with the centre removed. She also discovered an amazing wall panel created by Max van de Sluis and his team, a giant pedestal design by the same team, beautiful arrangements using blocking as a central technique not to mention new approaches to classical containers. However, the show stopper for her appears to have been a remarkable new flower development which will hopefully be in production in the near future.
Undoubtedly the issue of sustainability is one of great concern to the industry and it is certainly something we will be looking at in the future. However, Fusion Flowers is constantly looking for concepts to inspire readers and there’s no doubt that Alison founds lots.
