Sue Phillips takes a second look at the Hampton Court Palace Show and in particular the contemporary gardens to see if there are any trends that would be of interest to a contemporary floral designer and it seems that she hit pay dirt!
In the second report by Sue Phillips from the Hampton Court
Palace Show she investigates a recurring trend in contemporary
gardening and in floral design – boxes or cubes!
Sue, who is well-known for her contemporary designs, finds the subject
of creating particular forms a real inspiration and at this year’s show
she found several gardens had adopted this theme. Be it using topiary
shapes, boxed inserts or even a garden in a cube – there was lots to
interest her and readers will be amazed at some of the ideas on
display. She even reports on a garden where the garage is underground
complete with a Porsche!
However, Sue feels that there was more on offer there than just garden
inspiration because she left feeling she had found one aspect in a
garden that may lead her to another design challenge. We await the
outcome with baited breath. However, the diverse approach of the
gardeners concerned in using a central theme in such different ways is
exciting and we expect this may well inspire others in their work too.
In the meantime, we know that you’ll find Sue’s story and images
inspiring and you can find the full story and detailed images in Issue 45 of Fusion Flowers magazine.
