The Chelsea Flower Show always heralds great excitement in floral design terms particularly with florists. Normally they arrive from all over the UK to compete for that coveted RHS Gold Medal, however, this year the RHS decided to cancel the floristry competitions. In place a few well-known London based florists were invited to demonstrate/exhibit a design relating to the slogan ‘Fashion and Flowers’.
The Floral Art competition still exists and the second competition in particular revealed some very exciting designs (see Issue 43 available from 18 July 2008). In the first competition Michael Strownix received a Silver Gilt Medal for his work which featured on the BBC. In fact, the images from Chelsea in this Newsletter will not feature in Fusion Flowers magazine but we thought you would be interested to see some of the items on display.

They did their best and in the attached image Paula Pryke interprets the new scarf designed by Liberty’s of London for the event using gorgeous orchid plants set on branches. It was very nice but gone was the excitement of the competition. Bring back the florists we cry!

The British Floristry Association had a stand in the main Floral
Marquee and, although it lacked impact, on closer inspection some of
the smaller work was very nice. Urban Design by Christines created
this glorious shoe on a pave of bun moss.
