Jo Read reports on the extraordinary success of the ‘Flower Buddy’ at the Salone Di Mobile in Italy

Jo Read from the Flower Council of Holland makes a welcome return with his report on the recent show at the Salone Di Mobile in Milan.  Milan is host to this huge annual design event which features mainly on interior design materials but the Flower Council of Holland felt that this would be an ideal venue to show flowers used in, let’s say, more unusual applications.  The result this year was the development of the Flower Buddy.

The Flower Buddies come in two different sizes and are basically white shapes with holes where you can create ‘outfits’ using flowers.  Each ‘Buddy’ has an area for water so your ‘outfit’ can last a long time.

When we first saw the prototype, we were a bit uncertain about where they were going with these but the reality has proved that they are great fun and very chic!  A colleague of ours received one in the post and just adores it and of course you can design your ‘Buddy’ in so many ways - the results can be outrageous!

We realise that this fun article may look at bit strange but the truth is – we are in the business of keeping you at the cutting edge of what’s happening in the flower world and that’s what this is all about.  This idea has been a fabulous success because it’s made interior designers think about flowers more than their usual approach and that can only be a good thing!  You can read more about the event and see more ‘Flower Buddies’ in Issue 42 of Fusion Flowers magazine.
