Independent retail florists in the UK have the chance to win a prestigious award as the Re:fresh awards celebrate the most innovative companies in the industry sector this year.  The Re:fresh awards are organised annually by the Fresh Produce Consortium, the trade association representing the fresh produce and flower industry and the Fresh Produce Journal, the leading trade journal for the fresh produce sector.

QD Events Ltd, the organisers of Floristic 2009, has announced that they will be postponing the launch of the event due to the current economic climate.

NAFAS has appointed Copseys as ‘Central Supplier’ to the ‘Rejoice’ Festival 2009 in Westminster Abbey and in addition, Wessex and Jersey Area of NAFAS, who are staging the NAFAS exhibit at Chelsea 2009, have just appointed them ‘Sole’ supplier for this event.

We are delighted to announce that Fusion Flowers magazine has once again won the prestigious award of Best Magazine by a small publishing company in the 2008 PPA Scotland Awards.  If anything, the competition was more fierce than before with five top title magazines short listed for the final part of the competition.  The category was sponsored by Pensord printing house and the award was presented by the Managing Director, Tony Jones. 

We've been told that this is an all time first for any magazine to win an award at this level - three times in four years!  From our point of view, it means that flowers and floral design are now taken very seriously indeed.  The judges came from the cream of the industry and included a former chief executive of the Economist Group, a former editor of the Daily Express and a member of the Board of the Hearst Corporation.

Fusion Flowers magazine also received Highly Commended notices in two other categories - Best Online Presence and Consumer Magazine of the Year where we were short listed too.  This is an amazing achievement by anyone's standards and shows just how well regarded our magazines are.

Since our launch in 2001 there has always been a core of dedicated Fusion Flowers subscribers who would not dream of missing an issue. As we passed our 7th Anniversary, it became apparent that more and more of you were becoming collectors - with a particular tendency for new subscribers to add a number of recent back issues to their order.

We have been asked to alert you to a forthcoming Australian extravaganza due to take place at the Southee Complex, Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park, NSW, Australia from 28 - 29 August 2009.  The event is part of the Gardening Expo Australia and we understand that there are to be 20 competitive floral design categories, daily workships with Gregor Lersch, daily demonstrations, workshops with Mark Pampling, Richard Go, Greg Block, Irene Brockwell and Colin Straub.

We have received this recent report from Society of Floristry regarding their up coming annual show. 

Lancashire based flowersdirect, a leading floral and gifting company, has announced plans to create a larger, stronger Relay Network with greater marketing and fulfilment strength and much improved coverage. Since the acquisition of the Flowergram business in May 2007, Flowergram members have operated as a separate Relay Network to that of flowersdirect.

Basing suspends trading in order to assess situation

Basing Ltd, organiser of Florist Event International 09, has suspended trading as of Friday 25th July in order that a thorough viability study can be undertaken of the company. Creditors have been contacted and advised of the situation.

Selina Botham of Designs for All Seasons has scooped both a Gold Medal and Best Small Garden award at this year's Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. This is an amazing achievement especially as this is the first show garden she has ever created.

BoxMart, the online supplier of unbranded, highly eco-conscious gift packaging, has witnessed a rapid growth in sales of 28% in 12 months across its entire product range following the addition of many new colours, sizes  and graphic designs. 

This year was the first time that FloraHolland awarded its FloraHolland Awards in four categories.

The 27th International Plant Fair IPM will take place at Messe Essen from January 29 to February 1, 2009.

With a resounding vote of support from its Board of Directors, the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) is advancing plans to offer a new professional floral design designation that will assist both the industry and the public in recognising designers who are proficient in the fundamentals of floral design.
