At last a book we have all be waiting for; a ?How to do? book on Contemporary Floral Design, without having to spend a fortune on fees for tuition. The book is divided into two sections. The first section contains instructions on how to create 144 seasonal arrangements. Each one of these designs uses several floral techniques. Each one of the 61 techniques is described and illustrated in detail in the second part of the book. Methods used range from the simple basic ones such as taping to the more complex making shapes with wire and interweaving in a lattice. None of them in themselves are very complicated, but by combining methods, fantastic arrangements are created.
The book is written in German with the English version juxtaposed. The English translation is sometimes too literal and doesn?t always flow naturally. But so far I have managed to work out exactly what is being conveyed.
If you follow this book from beginning to end you will have given yourself the confidence to fly in this subject. It will suit people who can learn directly from books and who can get their hands to interpret the written and pictorial instructions. If you learn by copying what someone else does in detail, you may struggle to get the full benefit from this book.
You may also find it difficult to source all the materials needed to create these fantastic pieces. My wholesaler is good, but not that good. Fusion Flowers marketplace may oblige in some instances, and you would do well to find yourself a friend who can weld in order to complete one or two of the designs described.
If it does work for you, be warned. Most of the arrangements call for the creation of largish frameworks to which fresh flowers are added. They each take a significant amount of time to create, so you will want to use them again and again. Is your storage room big enough to take them all? Perhaps you should consider ordering a (large) garden shed as well.
