There is absolutely no doubt that modern French design is extremely popular.  Leading arrangers have, over the years, created dramatic, often architectural designs which have translated well into the contemporary idiom.  However, very few of these designers appear to be moving on and apparently prefer instead to strive for perfection of presentation.

Marie-Françoise Déprez is without doubt a superb exponent of the modern style of French design.  where her work differs, however, is that she is clearly moving forward and embraces influences from overseas.  In her latest book, table design, Marie-Françoise explores various options and techniques whilst creating her ‘table designs’.  It has to be said that, on several occasions, the book exceeds what is regarded by many as table design (normally considered to only apply to dining tables) insofar as she creates many arrangements that would look good on any type of table.  Interesting too is the fact that for the first time, in this type of book, she indicates the techniques and mechanics that have been employed to create some of the designs.  This is a real break through.

I am certain that table design will, as it deserves, become an international bestseller.  The photography is superb and there is a clear botanical index at the back of the book.

This book is highly recommended for both the ‘modern’ and ‘contemporary’ designer.
