Occasionally, you get a feeling when you open a book for review that makes it difficult to retain impartiality.  Sometimes it starts with the front cover but other times it's as you initially flick through pages to get the feel of the content you find that you have to stop at a certain page because you connect with the work.  Each time I open a book by Geert Pattyn this is exactly what happens to me and his latest, Geert Pattyn Master Florist, is no exception. 

Mr Pattyn's work is quite simply beautiful and I am not alone in my views on this subject as is evident by the quotations of internationally respected designers which can be found throughout this edition.  It appears that he effortlessly combines his technical skills in creating concepts for interiors that, in some cases, appear so simple but in reality are a mastery of understatement.  His understanding of architecture and interior design are unquestionable and each design/arrangement he reveals shows a different aspect of his work.

Geert is a disarmingly charming, gentle, polite and respectful individual and this shines out of every piece of his work I have ever had the privilege to see.  Take a look at the images of his presentation to AIFD in Issue 38 and you?ll see what I mean.  This book shows a Master Florist at work.  Geert is simply not capable of making a design that is not a living treasure.  I suppose it comes down to this - to ask myself a question - would I buy this book?  The answer is simple - yes I would - he is my type of designer.
